It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

It comes every year at the same time and yet so many of us are blindsided when December 1st comes and the 'Christmas Season' is in full swing.

For many of us the sense of magic the holiday season can bring is left behind in our childhoods.

Wouldn't it  be nice if the holidays just brought warm and cozy afternoons by the fire sipping hot chocolate and watching hallmark movies. I know you just chuckled..  because if we are being honest we know that a majority of the holiday season is not spent like that. Instead we are in a frantic state of mind trying to make sure we get the perfect gifts for all our loved ones, have the perfectly decorated house, and spending way too much time on Pinterest attempting to do projects we have no business doing.

If you are anything like me this time of year can be filled with a lot of EXPECTATION and COMPARISON.

Let's dig deeper into that shall we...

Expectations. Do you have high expectations of yourself, your family, your friends, and coworkers?
More than likely, yes. Expectations feed frustration. It is an unhealthy attachment to people, things, or an outcome we wish we could control; but don't.

There is so much to do during this season that we get lost. My personality type has a lot of confidence in ones ability to get things done and therefore I set very lofty goals. I create a list for today that in reality will take a week to complete. Aiming high is great. That is until 7 pm rolls around and I am left with a list of unchecked tasks, then the stress kicks in.

It is okay to know your limitations and to say NO. Think about the tasks that you are putting on your self to complete, think about the time it will take and the energy you are putting into it. Does it really belong on your list?
If it takes a NO to preserve your SANITY then do it!!

Throw out your expectations for “the perfect Christmas.”

Comparison- I have a entire post coming soon about this because I feel like this is such an epidemic with our society today but lets just touch on this subject really quick.
A season that should be spent reflecting and being in a pure state of Joy is often taken off track by comparison.
You might be thinking to yourself that you don't deal with this. That you love the way you look and you are happy and content.

Did you feel that?? It was a reality check smacking you right in the face.

Comparison does not always come in a physical form.
How many times have you jumped on Pinterest, Instagram, or Facebook today and seen someone totally rocking the Christmas game and decided you needed to step it up?
How many times have you received a holiday card and felt insufficient?
How many times have you seen some one getting their loved ones lavish gifts and immediately feel like your gifts are not good enough?

Remember that comparison is the thief of all joy.

Maybe it is time to let go of all of your expectations of what the holiday season should hold and just let it unfold.

Remember the way we spend our holidays is far more important than how many cookies you bake, what you wore to the Christmas Party, the gifts you give and even if your house is decorated like a Pinterest board.

Give yourself GRACE and enjoy the TRUE meaning of Christmas with those you hold closest!

Here are just a few tips and Tricks on how.

XOXO- Katie
